Lightweight, reliable, high-performance

It arrived earlier than expected, it is a quality product, I recommend it. It started easily and pushes well, it would appear to have more horsepower than actually claimed. If I really have to find small moles, I would like to point out the lack of reverse gear which must be compensated by turning the engine suddenly 180 degrees and the lack of a socket for external tanks (the internal one lasts about 45 minutes and then it must be supplied with a tank and funnel). bit uncomfortable but for the type of engine there is.

A really good engine

The scope of delivery is extremely complete, a second emergency stop line is included, as well as a reserve start line, a second shear pin with a split pin for the prop, and even the required engine oil. Unpacked, filled with oil and gasoline, the engine jumped on the second train and ran quietly to itself. The lack of reverse gear takes getting used to. To drive backwards, the motor is turned, ie take off the gas, take out gear, turn the motor, throw the tiller, go back in gear. This means that stopping the sailboat takes longer, which should be taken into account when maneuvering in the harbor. But it is certainly a question of getting used to, and it saves weight. Isn't that unimportant if you want to lift the engine from the sailing boat onto the dinghy and attach it ...

Mercury 3.5HP - how has been your experience with this outboard? I have seen some very BAD reviews around 2011 to 2015 on this outboard, not starting, not running well, etc. I HEARD that mercury had re-designed and copied the much better Tohatsu 3.5HP. Can anyone who has bought this Mercury 3.5HP Four Stroke in the last 1-2 years comment on reliability, use, and "happiness" with the outboard? many thanks, Joao Mendes
