After acquiring a recreational boating licence, every water sports enthusiast strives for further development. This comprehensive 7-day combination intensive course of theory and practice emphasises good seamanship. The opportunity to immediately apply the theory learnt in practice has proven to be an extremely effective learning method.
The knowledge learnt in theory is immediately applied on board.
All course content at a glance
- Area of validity: coastal waters, shipping lanes and sea lanes (12-mile zone) for pleasure craft under sail and engine. Many charter companies require the presentation of the SKS if you want to charter a yacht.
- Prerequisite: SBF See, at least 300 nm, minimum age: 16 years.
- Course content: Navigation plus tidal knowledge, harbour manoeuvres, seamanship, meteorology.
- Examination: Theoretical and practical examination, conducted by a DSV examination board
- Training objective: Safe navigation of pleasure craft in the specified area of validity.
- Recommendation: The SRC marine radio course is recommended as a supplement for safe communication from sea to land, especially in emergencies.
The course includes both theoretical and practical content and concludes with an examination. The training area covers the Westerschelde, a tidal area with a tidal range of around 5 metres, tidal currents of up to 4 knots, sandbanks and busy shipping routes at the entrance to the English Channel.
The course content also includes night navigation using electronic navigation instruments and the use of marine radio.
Time:
You will arrive the day before from 4 pm. You will spend the night together with the other course participants in a holiday flat. The cost of accommodation is included in the price.
Examination:
The examination fee must be paid in addition to the training price.
