According to DIN EN ISO 13297, boats with a 230 V on-board power supply should be provided with an indicator that shows the correct electrical connection of the AC onboard system to the AC shore power (reverse polarity, protective earth conductor not connected). This small LAR mains control panel from PHILIPPI is easy to install and features two indicator lights to show the correct electrical connection between the shore power connection from the jetty and the on-board AC mains: The green light signals that everything is connected correctly and the red light indicates reverse polarity of the outer conductor (live L) and neutral (N).
Because the LAR indication panel detects a break in the protective earth conductor (PE), it is a useful addition to the function monitoring of galvanic isolators that are not "fail safe" certified. As soon as there is a break in the protective conductor (PE), both control LEDs light up.
Tech data
- Mains voltage 230V AC / 50 Hz
- Measuring error current 1.4 mA
- Dimensions: W 105 x H 52.5 x D 50 mm
Notes
- Not suitable for AC mains without protective earth.
- Connection requires a 3x 1.5 mm² cable and fully isolated flat connectors.
- Suitable for function checking of galvanic isolators that are not "fail safe" certified.
Installation notes
Ideally, the L and N connection cables of the LAR wiring system control panel should be connected upstream of the residual current circuit breaker (RCBO). The green/yellow PE protective conductor is connected to the protective conductor busbar in the shore connection unit.
This ensures that a polarity reversal is also displayed if the RCBO has tripped (for whatever reason).
If there is a galvanic isolator (zinc saver) on board, which can be found in the green/yellow PE cable between the shore power takeover and the shore connection unit if installed correctly, it is also monitored for continuity.
