Explore the world on the water with the Torqeedo TRAVEL 903

The new Torqeedo TRAVEL 903 features an output of over 900 watts and is comparable to a 2.5 HP petrol outboard engine in terms of propulsive power. Thanks to the on-board computer with GPS-based calculation of the remaining range, it's like having a travel guide with you always.

The new Travel 903 now comes in a fresh and functional design.

Thanks to an impressive increase in power, this motor now offers a 14% increase in range compared to the Travel 1103 and features an extremely efficient propeller. And with an output of 900 W, it has more than enough to power boats weighing up to 1.3 tonnes, making it the perfect motor for small sailing boats or for exploring lakes and rivers with the family. Setting a new high bar in the light electric outboard sector, the motor promises a near-silent glide through the water and powerful thrust - all completely emission-free. This motor will revolutionise your boating experience and at unbeatable value for money!

1: On- board computer with GPS-based range calculation: Alarm at low charge level
2: Emergency Stop Magnetic Chip: Stops the engine in an emergency without affecting the water resistance
3: Short shaft
4: Quiet direct drive & immediate response
5: Lithium high performance battery integrated in the outboard engine: High energy density, excellent high current capability, safe
6: Charging socket and USB port: For charging with shore power, from 12V battery or solar. Via an (optional) USB adapter, the TRAVEL can also be used as a power source for smartphones, lights etc.
7: All connections and components are waterproof (IP 67)

Included in delivery: Torqeedo Travel 903 with battery, charger and magnetic chip kill switch
Note: For optimum protection in salt water, Torqeedo recommends the use of an anode.

Information on range and speed

When travelling through water, displacement increases power required in proportion to the cube (third power) of the speed. This means that doubling water speed increases the power required eightfold. Conversely, it of course also means that only a slight reduction in speed will increase the range attainable significantly. Simply reducing speed by e.g. half a knot has a considerable effect on the remaining range. Since mental arithmetic to the power of three is quite tricky, the on-board computer of the Cruise constantly calculates the remaining range for you. To do this, it combines the consumption data from the motor with the charge level of the batteries together with the speed over water obtained via GPS. This means you can read the remaining range in real time from the Cruise's display. Using the TorqTrac App you can even read the remaining range from a map on your smartphone.

Looks great, ultra-lightweight, good handling
I don't have much experience with it yet, but I'll be using it next season.

My first impression is very positive: ultra-quiet and easy to handle. The outboard itself, without the battery, is super light, and the battery, at 6 kg, is no heavier than a jerrycan. I sold my old outboard; it was too heavy, too cumbersome, and there was always the risk of my passengers bruising their ribs when starting it ;-)

Therefore, a smaller dinghy is sufficient, and the capacity and power are certainly more than enough to get from the anchorage to the beach or into the fishing harbor.

The only downside is that the locking mechanism (for horizontal positioning) is a bit fiddly; you have to grab the notches and give it a little nudge....

Much more pleasant to use on the dinghy than the old two-stroke. But unfortunately, it's very expensive, which might make it very popular with thieves. And that's the problem: I haven't yet found a way to reliably protect myself from theft, especially since the battery and tiller can be easily removed without tools, even with the motor attached. With the old two-stroke, I had peace of mind when the dinghy was left unattended on the beach.

I think the charging options are brilliant:
- directly from the 12V electrical system (24V and everything in between also works)
- or directly from the solar panel without an additional charge controller
- or, if available, from 230V shore power (with a charger)

Top engine for our tender
We use the engine for our tender on a 38" sailing yacht. The engine meets all requirements. Handling and operation is easy, so that our 6 year old son has everything under control. We can only recommend the model

Why so fast?
I bought the electric outboard motor in winter and probably won't be able to test it until late spring...
