Digital Yacht's iKonvert NMEA2000 is an intelligent and flexible gateway that allows new NMEA2000 equipment to talk to legacy NMEA0183 equipment. iKonvert allows software applications to read or write NMEA2000 data, either as RAW binary PGN data for extensive analysis and control, or as converted NMEA0183 data supported by many applications.
The converter provides a cost effective solution for popular marine navigation applications on PC/MAC/LINUX computers to access NMEA0183 data. Inside iKonvert is a simple but effective mode selection method via a set of DIP switches. iKonvert then extracts the selected data from the NMEA2000 network and makes it available to your application in a format and baud rate that you support.
For developers of new applications or those wishing to decode NMEA2000 PGNs, iKonvert offers "RAW mode". In this mode, data can be read and written in simple serial data format. Data format specifications are available on the iKonvert Github page. iKonvert integrates seamlessly without the need for special libraries or proprietary code. The device is already compatible with CanBoat and the Signal K Node Server, which has attracted interest from a growing developer community.
Digital Yacht's iKonvert features a compact housing and is easy to assemble. It has an integrated USB cable and a standard NMEA2000 micro drop cable (male). iKonvert supports a baud rate of 230KB in "RAW mode" and 4.8KB, 38.4KB or 115KB in NMEA0183 conversion mode. It offers full galvanic isolation between the USB interface and the NMEA2000 network. The different modes are conveniently selected via internal DIP switches without the need for special configuration software or firmware changes.
iKonvert's USB interface uses the reliable and compatible FTDI chip, which provides drivers for all major operating systems (Windows/Mac/LINUX/Android). An ISO version of iKonvert will also be available soon, allowing direct connection between NMEA2000 and NMEA0183 systems.
